The profession of dance teacher is still unprotected in Switzerland. This means that at present anyone can teach dance regardless of their background, dance technical and pedagogical qualifications and experience. Against this background, Danse Suisse is committed to pursuing professionalisation in this area of work in several ways.
- Danse Suisse is involved in the development of a dance pedagogical education, the establishment of which will be linked to a protected professional title. A modular system at the level of a higher professional examination is planned, which will be an important offer especially for dancers who are working part-time or during retraining. However, the actual start of this training is not expected before 2023.
- Even if the profession is not protected, there are of course numerous dance teachers in Switzerland for all dance techniques who teach dance classes with great expertise and at an excellent level. In order to provide these teachers with a proof of quality, Danse Suisse has been keeping the professional register for many years. Only teachers who have successfully passed an evaluation process are listed in this register. This certificate is now recognised by many cantons, cities and local authorities. The professional register is supervised by a commission of experts from all over Switzerland; the commission decides on all applications for exemption. Further information can be found on the separate page for the → Professional Register.
- Continuing education: Regular continuing training ensures that dance professionals, whether in active dance careers or in the field of dance education, can carry out their work practice on the basis of the latest findings and developments in the field of dance medicine, but also in relation to pedagogical, psychological, didactic and related topics. Danse Suisse offers its own continuing education formats that support professionals in their work practice by imparting new knowledge on specific topics. In addition, however, we also refer on the website to external offers for professional dance practitioners → Workshops
