Afro-Pfingsten
At Pentecost, Afro-Pfingsten transforms the entire city of Winterthur into a vast space for intercultural exchange and encounters. Since August 2025, the festival has been directed by Filippo Armati.
Filippo Armati’s cultural vision is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach that brings together dance, music, visual art, and film, while promoting creativity, innovation, and dialogue between cultures. He intends to continue the mission of Afro-Pfingsten by programming concerts, dance, workshops, art, film, and readings, including the popular Family Day. In this way, the richness of Afro-descendant cultures is joyfully celebrated.
Armati has worked for more than twenty years in the performing arts as a dancer and choreographer, with over twenty productions and international tours to his credit. He co-organized the cultural center La Fonderia in Bellinzona and founded two initiatives: the multidisciplinary festival Performa (2010–2020) and Lo Studio Performing Arts (2016–2022), which he co-directed with Maria Vlasova, hosting more than a hundred artists and companies in residence over six years. He has also developed projects supported by national and international cultural grants, focusing on intercultural exchange between Europe, Africa (Tunisia, Egypt, and others), and Asia (India, Indonesia, Thailand). Additionally, he has worked as a project manager with Michael Schindhelm and Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger, KBH.G in Basel. Since 2017, he has collaborated with the editorial team of Danse Suisse and has co-founded and promoted the DanzaSIA network, which unites dance professionals from Italian-speaking Switzerland.
