The “Kritikerumfrage 2024/2025” (Critics' Surveys 2024/2025) for German-speaking countries by tanznetz.de have been published. Switzerland shines with several awards this year. The ZHdK was named best training institution and the Zurich Opera House was honored as a “remarkable venue.” Cathy Marston also received high praise in the category “Choreographer 2024/2025.”

The ZHdK (Zurich University of the Arts) was recognized as the “Best Training Institution.” The Bachelor in Contemporary Dance Zurich, together with the Tanz Akademie Zürich, took first place among educational institutions in the critics’ poll. Under the new leadership of Jason Beechey, the ZHdK has implemented significant improvements and restructurings, which are now bearing fruit. It is also highlighted that graduates of the Bachelor in Contemporary Dance consistently demonstrate a high and broadly diversified level of skill.

The Zurich Opera House was named a “remarkable venue.” The critics emphasized that ballet director and choreographer Cathy Marston has been able to build on the theater's past successes. Cathy Marston took fourth place in the “Choreographer 2024/2025” category. This award recognizes her creativity and versatility as a ballet director. Particular mention was made of the works “Clara,” “Mrs. Robinson,” and the short ballet “The Butterfly Effect” in the context of a discussion on climate change. The selection of the “Choreographers 2024/2025” is also gratifying because, with four women and two men receiving awards, there is a high proportion of women.

These awards underscore the excellence and dynamism of the dance scene in Switzerland. Congratulations!
