The profession of intimacy coordinators is a new role dedicated to observing and guiding intimate scenes in film and on stage to ensure smooth, respectful collaboration.

Contributing to the artistic vision of a production is a key part of the role. While intimacy coordinators have long been established in the USA, France and the UK, their integration in Switzerland and Germany is still emerging. This guide offers the first overview of the profession in the German-speaking world and highlights its advantages.

Saskia Oidtmann presents fundamental principles, methods and answers key questions: Why and when should intimacy coordinators be involved? What does their work entail? Which techniques are used? With which professions do they collaborate, and how? What differs between film, theatre and dance? How is training structured?

Renowned experts share their experience, best practices and proven working methods. Contributions address central aspects of the profession — from consent-based processes to developing specific choreographies to using clear, precise language. Queer intimacy, cultural differences and sexual violence are explored in depth. Includes a comprehensive glossary.
