Launched in 2021, the National Cultural Dialogue's working group on “Compensation of Artists” had the clear objective of developing a coherent practice of compensation that meets the needs of artists. An expert study was commissioned in order to obtain a comprehensive overview of the current practices within the public sector and professional associations.

Based on the findings of this study, three main areas requiring action were identified. Corresponding recommendations and a catalog of best practices were formulated to support the cultural dialogue at the national level.

These recommendations are aimed, among other things, at funding bodies, which are asked to take existing tariff guidelines into account when assessing funding applications and to apply them to all phases of the creative process. It also emphasizes that information on appropriate compensation should be provided by professional associations, while work to raise awareness needs to be intensified.

The adoption of these → recommendations and best practices in April 2024 marks a significant step towards furthering the professionalization and recognition of the work of creators. It is emphasized that in order to meet individual needs and circumstances, concrete implementation is the responsibility of the respective cultural promotion institutions.
