The Prix de Lausanne 2026 marked outstanding successes for the Tanz Akademie Zürich (taZ) at the international competition.

William Gyves won First Prize as well as the Best Swiss Candidate Award, while Dragos Gramada received the Aud Jebsen Scholarship and additionally won the Beaulieu Award and the Contemporary Dance Award.

The Prix de Lausanne 2026, an international dance competition, took place from 1 to 8 February and brought together 81 young dancers aged 15 to 18, selected from 444 applicants by an internationally renowned jury of experts.

Founded in 1973 by Swiss industrialist Philippe Braunschweig (1928–2010) and his Russian wife, the dancer Elvire Braunschweig, the competition has become a major springboard for aspiring professional dancers.

The Prix de Lausanne continues its educational mission throughout the year, notably through its Summer Academy. This one-week intensive programme brings together young dancers from around the world and serves as a European and international preselection for the Prix de Lausanne 2027. Its aim is to identify promising young talent and open the door to participation in the competition.

Another initiative of the Prix de Lausanne is the Swiss Workshop, scheduled for May 2026. This free day of classical and contemporary dance classes is aimed at young dancers with Swiss citizenship or those who have been studying at a Swiss dance school for at least two years. The goal is to promote dance in Switzerland and encourage young dancers to consider future participation in the Prix de Lausanne.

Finally, the Young Creation Award is a competition for young choreographers. Each year, five students from partner schools are selected to present their creations in a public performance before the Prix de Lausanne jury. The variations of the two winners are incorporated into the competition’s contemporary repertoire, and the young choreographers are invited to the Prix de Lausanne to coach the candidates on their variations.
