Pro Helvetia
Born in 1972, Michael Kinzer succeeds Philippe Bischof. His aim is to strengthen collaboration among public funders at the federal, cantonal, and municipal levels. We look forward to working with him in the field of dance support.
According to Foundation President Michael Brändle, “Michael Kinzer’s extensive experience in cultural policy and promotion will help ensure that the Foundation fulfills its mission to support artistic and cultural creation in Switzerland both nationally and internationally.” Upon his appointment, Kinzer stated: “Culture is the heart of our society. It must be supported, promoted, and shared. Pro Helvetia plays a unique and essential role in this regard. We must strengthen understanding of culture, explain what defines the cultural scene, and how artists work today. It will be a pleasure to devote my energy and convictions to the vitality and diversity of our cultural landscape.”
Michael Kinzer previously directed the Cultural Office of the City of Lausanne and co-chaired the Conference of Cities on Cultural Affairs. He began his career as a program director at the concert hall Fri-Son in Fribourg, later serving as general coordinator for Expo.02. He went on to manage a foundation encompassing Théâtre populaire romand as well as the Concert Hall and the Theatre L’heure bleue (NE) in La Chaux-de-Fonds. From 2009 to 2015 he directed the Festival de la Cité in Lausanne. He has served on numerous juries and cultural commissions at both regional and national levels, including as President of the Federal Music Jury.
